Signed up for your first twerk class? Congratulations on taking that step! Here's everything you need to know to walk in feeling prepared and confident.
What to wear
Comfort is key. Most students wear leggings or shorts with a sports bra or fitted top. You want clothes that let you move freely and that you can see your body in—watching your movements in the mirror is part of how you learn. Bare feet or socks work best on our studio floor.
What to bring
A water bottle is essential—you will sweat! A small towel can be handy too. We have yoga mats available if we do any floor work, but you're welcome to bring your own. Leave your self-doubt at the door; that's the only thing we don't allow in the studio.
What to expect
Classes typically start with a warm-up to get your hips loose and your muscles ready. We'll then break down the basic movements—the bounce, the pop, the roll—step by step. Don't worry about getting everything perfect. Focus on how the movements feel in your body rather than how they look.
By the end of class, we'll put it all together in a short routine. This is where the magic happens—where isolated movements become dance.
A note on soreness
If you've never done movements like this before, you might feel it in your glutes and thighs for a day or two afterward. This is completely normal! Your body is using muscles in new ways. The soreness fades as you build strength, and many students find it becomes one of their favourite kinds of muscle fatigue.
The most important thing
Come ready to have fun and be kind to yourself. Everyone in the room was a beginner once. Our community is supportive and welcoming, and we're all here for the same reason: to move our bodies and feel good doing it.
See you in class!
