Anyone can join our classes. We cater to all abilities and aim to be welcoming and supportive to all, especially newbies. We repeat the same dance routine for 2-4 classes and share a video of the routine in our community so you can practise at home and get to grips with the routine over a couple of weeks.
Our Totnes Monday dance class is women only, and Fridays are open to all genders.
We have a huge age range of dancers who join us from 18 years old to 58 years old.
Twerking is a celebration of all body shapes and sizes. No matter whether you have a big bum or hardly any booty, it is about how you move it and how it feels for you.
Having a big booty may emphasize the movements, but those with a big booty can still not know how to use it. It is about learning to connect with your pelvis, find your rhythm, and control those muscles.
Twerking is a dance style that involves shaking the hips and bum. The name twerk was coined in New Orleans, but the roots go all the way back to West Africa. You can read more about this here.
Twerking is exercise, so it is important to start small and listen to your body. Take breaks where you need to and progress as you feel able. We aim our classes at all levels so there is something for all abilities, and we encourage everyone to pace it to their level.
We always suggest wearing something loose on your bottom half so that you can feel your booty moving. Leggings and some tight shorts can restrict your body, which may make you feel like you are not moving as much.
